Best maternity fashion tips for pregnant women

As your bump – and you – grow during pregnancy, it’s easy to feel increasingly unfashionable.

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you need to get a new wardrobe altogether. Buy clothes that you could wear after you have given birth – think tunic-style tops, wrap dresses, camisoles, and cardigans. You’ll get lots of wear out of stretchy vests and fitted blazers and coats, although you may have to wear these unbuttoned.

Strapless Maxi Dress
Are you preparing for a photo shoot or going for a party? Wear this ethereal-looking blue strapless maxi dress with a sweetheart neckline. It’s effortless, stylish, and comfortable. With a beautiful bump popping out, you need no other accessories, quite literally.

Choose natural fibers
No-one wants to be clad in top-to-toe polyester at this time of year, especially when there’s a baby on board. Light, natural fabrics like linen and cotton are ideal because they allow the skin to breathe. Synthetic fabrics create a barrier against the skin, creating a kind of ‘greenhouse effect’, and that can cause you to overheat. For the office, choose cool cotton shirts in light-reflecting white for a smart and simple look. Cotton camisoles are easy to wear and are great for taking you from desk to dinner.

Don’t reach for over-sized items
It may be tempting, but over-sized items will make you look bigger than you actually are. Form-fitting tops or pants are the best way to show off your pregnant figure by accentuating and highlighting the areas that haven’t swollen, like your arms or legs. Follow the general rule of thumb by pairing a fitted item with a looser one, for example, a loose tunic with leggings or wide-legged trousers with a fitted top.

Plain Midi Dress And A Striped Jacket
Add layers to your midi or bodycon dresses if you are feeling conscious, or even otherwise too. Ditch your regular sweater for a striped flowing jacket like this one or something that is stylish and chic.

Don't limit yourself to black and neutral tones -- color is an essential part of the modern maternity clothes. You'll feel happier when you're wearing clothes that aren't drab. But, if you're really a color-phone, just throw a bright sweater around your shoulders to compliment an all-black outfit.
